EVYD joins the SEAMEO VOCTECH industry panel on AI in competency-based TVET

BRUNEI, 19 August 2026 – Competency-based TVET faces a timing problem. Industry now moves at the pace of Industry 4.0 and 5.0, while curriculum development remains slow and often rests on labour-market data that is already out of date.
That was the challenge behind a half-day forum at SEAMEO VOCTECH on 19 August – “Integrating AI into Competency-Based TVET: From AI-Enabled Curriculum Development to AI-Ready Graduates” – which brought together TVET policymakers, curriculum developers, instructional designers, and educators from across the region. The session ran as a moderated panel spanning government, industry, and academia.
Representing industry, Dr Abby Tan Chee Hong, Regional Head and General Manager at EVYD Technology, spoke to adaptive learning systems and to closer feedback between employers and educators – so that what is taught tracks the skills the market is actually asking for.
The wider case is for connecting these stages rather than solving them one at a time. Specialised AI agents, each suited to a narrow task, can work together across curriculum development, personalised learning, support for teachers, and career matching – linking industry need, students’ competency gaps, and the route into employment. The direction is away from standalone chatbots and toward connected systems that stay under national control, with educators deciding how they are used.
For EVYD, that principle of local control is grounded, not aspirational. Its EVYDENCE platform already runs locally hosted AI infrastructure in Brunei, on domestic servers, with appropriate data governance and security. Launched with UNN in late 2025 – initially serving national health services – it keeps data within Brunei’s own jurisdiction.
