Building Trusted AI for Healthier People, Stronger Healthcare Systems and More Resilient Cities

BRUNEI, 27 August 2026 – At the Global Urban Innovation & Development Symposium (GUIDeS) this morning, Dr Abby Tan Chee Hong, Regional Head and General Manager at EVYD Technology drew upon his experience in digital health and population-health platforms and shared practical applications and required foundations to move from isolated AI projects towards a secure and connected national AI environment.
GUIDeS is an international and interdisciplinary event co-hosted by Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Chongqing University (CQU) with the main goal this year to explore practical and innovative solutions for future-ready, sustainable, and resilient cities.
Dr Abby explained that while artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to improve people’s lives, it is not to be used simply because it is new or trending, but to build stronger health systems for earlier prevention and detection.
“Technology can support a full healthcare journey – from pre-consultation triage and navigation to AI copilots that reduces doctors’ administrative works, to remote monitoring that supports recovery at home. However, human oversight remains essential, especially where decisions affect people’s health. AI does not replace responsibility nor accountability of healthcare professionals.”
The value of AI depends on trust and resilience. With sovereign AI, countries retain control over sensitive data, critical infrastructure and key decisions while still benefiting from the best global technologies.
“Trusted AI can support SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 9 (Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities), SDG 16 (Strong Institutions) and SDG 17 (Partnerships),” concluded Dr Abby.
