His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam Visits EVYD Campus

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 6 July 2026 – His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, today consented to visit the EVYD Campus.

His Majesty was welcomed by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Second Minister of Finance; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid, Minister of Development; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health; and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Coordinating Minister for Social Policy and Manpower and Minister of Home Affairs, together with members of EVYD’s Board of Directors, Ms Gong Yingying and Mr Xu Jiming; General Manager, Abby Tan; Head of Technology, Pei Yan; Head of Operations, William Lai; and Head of Solutions and Business Development, Alvin Li.

During the visit, EVYD presented a healthcare large language model developed and trained on Brunei’s healthcare data within a secure, privacy-preserving and sovereign framework. The model is built to reflect Brunei’s clinical practices, healthcare workflows and population health needs, and is designed to support clinical decision support, disease prevention, chronic disease management and population health analytics.

His Majesty was also shown a live demonstration of a healthcare application jointly developed by EVYD and the Ministry of Health, built on the same model. The demonstration illustrated how locally trained AI can support healthcare professionals, clinical workflows and patient care.

The briefing also covered EVYD’s collaboration with the Ministry of Health through the Epidemic Intelligence and Response Unit (EIRU), and research undertaken with national partners, including Universiti Brunei Darussalam and the Ministry of Health, and with international institutions, including the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), [CONFIRM: Duke-NUS Medical School / Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, NUS] and the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS).

General Manager Abby Tan presented EVYD’s business strategy and development roadmap, including plans to further develop locally trained healthcare AI models, deepen research collaborations, and grow local AI talent.

His Majesty then toured the campus and met members of the EVYD team. The visit closed with a discussion between His Majesty and EVYD’s management on artificial intelligence, innovation and talent development in Brunei.

His Majesty was also pleased to sign a shirt featuring Oyen, the mascot of the BN on the Move initiative, and to receive two pesambah, before joining the EVYD team for a group photograph.
