EVYD Campus Hosts Legislative Council for Ministry of Health Discussion Session

Annual government session brings legislators into direct contact with healthcare technology infrastructure supporting national digital health initiatives

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 28 November 2025 – EVYD Technology hosted Brunei’s Legislative Council at our campus this week for their annual discussion session with the Ministry of Health and members of the National Assembly Council

Beyond Conference Rooms

The visit marked a significant engagement between Brunei’s legislators and the healthcare technology infrastructure supporting national digital health programs. Rather than a standard presentation format, Legislative Council members toured operational facilities to see how digital health systems function in practice.

The tour included the EVYD Gallery, which showcases the evolution of healthcare technology solutions deployed across Brunei, and the Epidemic Intelligence and Response Unit located in the Ministry of Health wing of our campus. This unit plays a critical role in monitoring and responding to public health threats through real-time data analysis and coordination.

Understanding Healthcare Technology in Context

Government meetings at technology facilities create different dynamics than traditional boardroom discussions. Legislators see the actual systems, ask questions about operational challenges, and gain direct understanding of technical constraints and capabilities that inform policy decisions.

During the campus tour, Legislative Council members observed:

Healthcare System Integration: How platforms like BruHealth connect to various healthcare data sources and deliver services to citizens across the country.

Population Health Programs: The operational infrastructure behind initiatives like Brunei On The Move, including data collection, analysis, and engagement mechanisms.

Data Governance: Physical and technical security measures protecting sensitive health information while enabling authorized use for public health purposes.

Technical Operations: The day-to-day work of maintaining and developing healthcare technology systems that serve the entire nation.

Supporting National Development

The engagement reflects Brunei’s approach to digital transformation—ensuring that policymakers understand the systems they’re depending on and that technology providers understand the policy environment they’re operating within.

EVYD’s work directly supports Wawasan Brunei 2035’s objectives:

Skilled People: Building local technical expertise in healthcare technology and data science while deploying systems that improve access to health information and services.

Sustainable Economy: Developing digital health infrastructure that creates economic value through improved healthcare efficiency and reduced disease burden.

Quality of Life: Enabling better health outcomes through technology that supports prevention, early detection, and effective management of health conditions.

What This Means

These direct engagements between legislators and technology operations matter for several reasons. Policy decisions about healthcare technology improve when the people making them have seen how systems actually work. Budget discussions become more informed when legislators understand technical requirements and operational realities. Regulatory frameworks develop more appropriately when policymakers have context for the challenges and opportunities that technology presents.

As Brunei continues advancing its digital health capabilities, the relationship between government and technology providers will remain critical. Progress depends not just on technical capabilities or policy intentions, but on mutual understanding of what’s possible, what’s necessary, and what’s at stake.

The Legislative Council’s choice to hold their annual Ministry of Health discussion at EVYD’s campus reflects the growing integration of healthcare technology into Brunei’s health system governance and planning processes.
